12R Interior Electrician

U.S. Army MOS Code 12R stands for Interior Electrician. This enlisted job in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers involves installing, maintaining, and repairing interior electrical systems, wiring, fixtures, and distribution panels in buildings and military facilities up to 600 volts.

Core Duties

• Read blueprints, technical drawings, and wiring diagrams.
• Install service panels, circuit breakers, conduit, switches, and lighting fixtures.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical malfunctions using testing tools like multimeters.
• Maintain tactical generators and ensure proper system grounding.
• Ensure all installations comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC).

Qualifications & Training

ASVAB Score: Minimum Electronics (EL) score of 93.

Physical: Normal color vision and no record of extreme fear of heights (acrophobia) or enclosed spaces (claustrophobia).

Training: 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training followed by roughly 7 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Certifications: Eligible to track apprenticeship hours toward civilian journeyman status via USMAP.
