68C Practical Nursing Specialist

U.S. Army MOS 68C is the Practical Nursing Specialist. This vital medical job trains soldiers to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). They provide preventive, therapeutic, and emergency nursing care for military service members, their families, and civilian patients in both hospitals and field deployment environments.

Job Duties

• Provide routine and emergency patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, physician, or NCO.
• Administer medications, start IV lines, dress wounds, and monitor vital signs.
• Assist with pre- and post-operative care and patient assessments in military medical centers or combat support hospitals.
• Manage small clinic wards or assist on forward deployment medical teams.

Training and Qualifications

AIT Duration: Approximately 51 to 52 weeks of Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Licensure: Graduates must pass the national licensing exam to earn an active, state-recognized LPN/LVN credential (NCLEX-PN).

ASVAB Requirements: Minimum score of 101 in Skilled Technical (ST) and 107 in General Technical (GT).

Civilian Transferability

Directly translates to a civilian Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) career in hospitals, clinics, and VA facilities.
